MRSC Ltd is an independent maritime consultancy business. It was established in Edinburgh towards the end of 2010 by Captain David McFarlane, with the object of helping ship operating companies (including owners, managers and the mega-yacht sector) reduce their operational risks, improve their safety awareness and establish a proper and effective safety culture.
After a successful career at sea – sailing on a variety of ships, including tankers, geared bulk carriers, reefers and ro-ros – David came ashore at the end of 1991, joining the ship manager Acomarit (UK) Ltd. Working through various roles, including Fleet Manager and Quality Manager, he was made Manager of Risk Safety and Quality when V.Ships acquired Acomarit. This was a senior role that required the overseeing of the safety, compliance and efficiency of all the international offices and the entire cargo fleet in the group (around 350 vessels at that time).
After gaining almost 20 years’ experience in ship management, David then joined ConsultISM Ltd, working for Dr Phil Anderson as Project Manager. Part of this role included the auditing of offices and ships in relation to ISM compliance, as well as developing and facilitating various training courses, working on claims investigations and assistance with expert witness work.
